California Vehicle Supply is a service-based company started in 1996. In 2001, CVS owner Jim Spence saw a need that was not being addressed: utility trailer safety and security. Stories in “National Dragster” addressing race car trailer theft were showing up too often and he wondered why. The research was started and in March 2003, Jim received the result. Across the country trailer theft was a major issue and not just for racecar trailers. Utility trailers of all types were being stolen on a daily basis. The research also showed an increase in big-rig theft with an unbelievable insurance cost. There had to be a simple and cost effective solution to this problem. This was the starting point for the Spence Trailer Safety Lock.
California Vehicle Supply has but one focus: to provide consumers with a product that will insure safety and security for their trailers. The product must be adaptable to various trailer types, must be easy to adjust and install, must provide a sense of well being and security, and must be affordable. The Spence Trailer Safety Lock fulfills these requirements. It is adjustable, lightweight, anodized bright yellow, and costs a fraction of what a trailer owner would lose in time and money if his trailer were stolen.
California Vehicle Supply also has a lock for the big-rig industry. It is designed to fit three-axle big-rigs with the standard driver tire sizes. This lock also is easily adjustable, lightweight, anodized bright yellow and affordable.
Jim Spence has been involved in the automotive industry since 1978 and has been involved in professional drag racing since 1962. Along the way, he has driven a variety of cars and worked primarily on dragsters. Jim sold auto parts for two warehouses in Sacramento and a warehouse in Southern California, and he has spent 15 years as a college instructor. Today Jim’s focus is the Spence Trailer Safety Lock. This patented device is unique to the lock industry and one that will help the weekend racer/boater/fisherman, as well as working crews, rest assured their investments are secure.
While the Spence Trailer Safety Lock’s patent is in Jim’s name, there are others who have supported and assisted in this venture: Berneice Spence, Bill Spence, Scott Porter, Steve Renick, Tim Owens, Dr. Bob and Bill W.
This project and web site are dedicated to the memory of my late wife, Beverly Jean Spence. Bev’s support, encouragement, criticism, and spirit continue to drive me today. Moreover, without her during the initial stages, this project would not be moving forward providing a patented, consumer-friendly device designed to help everyone enjoy their freedom and work at those things they want and need to.
